Kittens looking for a new home and a special XMas competition!

At Pets Palace, we don’t just think of ourselves as a supplier of high quality pet products, but mainly as pet lovers. This is one of the reasons why, since the opening of the store (over two years ago), we’ve been strongly against selling live animals for a profit. We feel that having cute pets in your shop can encourage impulsive purchase of pets and increase the chance of the pets to be abandoned in the long term. The choice of getting a pet is a decision that has to be taken seriously, discussed with all family members and thought through.

A massive number of pets are still being abandoned, and the fact that shelters are often very near overcapacity is a huge issue. This is why Pets Palace recently decided to work in collaboration with Sydney Dogs and Cats Home to help abandoned pets to find a new home.

Sydney Dogs and Cats Home association has worked really hard since 1946 to “prevent unnecessary euthanasia of healthy, loving pets” and “find them new homes which will last a lifetime”. The association welcome up to 4,000 cats and dogs each year. Check out their Facebook page if you would like to know more about Sydney Dogs & Cats Home.

So what is the role of Pets Palace in all of this? Pets Palace aims to help Sydney Dogs & Cats Home by welcoming abandoned kittens and cats in the shop and facilitate their rehoming. We currently have kittens in the store, they have been desexed, vaccinated, vet checked and micro chipped and now just need a loving home.
Come and meet them at our Sydney store!
To conclude with a little extra note, if you would like some extra fun during the festive season, check out our very latest competition: browse through the Pets Palace website to find where Santa is hiding for a chance to win a Xmas Gift Pack!

9 myths about dogs & cats that just aren’t true

1 – If my dog moves his tail it’s because he’s happy
Wrong! A dog moves his tail when he gets excited, this can be either positive excitement or in a negative way such as nervousness.

2 – If my dog’s nose is warm, it’s because he is sick
Wrong again! You should use a thermometer to know if your animal is sick or not. The temperature of the nose is not a reliable indicator.

3 – A dog can’t distinguish between colours
Not true! For sure, a dog’s sight is different than that of humans, but a dog can distinguish almost every colour except red and green.

4 – Big dogs need more space than small dogs
This is not just a question of size but of breed. For example, a border terrier needs a lot of space even though it is a small sized dog.

5 – Milk is a good nutrient for cats
This is incorrect. After two months, milk can in fact cause intestinal disorders. Milk should be replaced by water.

6 – You shouldn’t touch a kitten because his mother will reject him
This isn’t true. If you touch a kitten it is likely to get used a human presence more quickly, but it won’t reject its mother.

7 – Feeding your dog raw meat will make him aggressive
Feeding a dog raw meat has not been proven to cause aggression in dogs.

8 – When your cat purrs it means he is happy
Not necessarily, Cats also purr when they're experiencing something intense, such as pain for example.

9 - A cat's whiskers have no real purpose
This is not true! A cat uses its whiskers to measure distance.

Note: whilst we take every precaution to make sure our sources are correct and reliable, we always recommend speaking to an expert (such as a vetenarian) when in doubt about your pet's health or behaviour.
